Silicone rubber polymers have a backbone of silicon oxygen. This is one of the main reasons that silicone rubber has such excellent high temperature properties. silicone has the ability to withstand ozone , UV, heat and other aging factors. For all of these reasons, silicone is used in many extreme environments.

Silicone rubber offers incredible resistance to extreme temperatures, being able to operate normally from minus 100°C to plus 300°C. In such conditions the tensile strength, elongation, tear strength and compression set can be far superior to conventional rubbers.

Silicone Rubber can also be moulded into custom shapes and designs. Heat is required to vulcanise the silicone rubber. Vucanised rubber is often difficult to recycle. Fortunately, plastic trader enterprises has developed markets and uses for vulcanised / cured and low grade silicone materials.

Many products such as calculator and cell phone key pads are made from silicone, such as the keypad shown below. Silicone is used in a vast number of industries.
